Dr. Bagus has many years of work experience at the world-famous Red Cross Children's Hospital. Doctor Bagus worked as a senior medical officer in medical outpatients' clinic, allergy clinic and medical emergencies.

What Happens at a Breastfeeding Consultation?
While breastfeeding is natural, it can take some time to become comfortable with it. Some babies may take a little longer to learn. Just like not every baby does not roll or walk or talk at the same time, some need a little extra guidance and support on their journey.
Getting help early with breastfeeding challenges prevents small issues from escalating. Every mother can define her own success with breastfeeding with some guidance, support and information.
Consider setting up a prenatal breastfeeding consult before your baby is born.
This will help you and your family have a realistic idea of what to expect. It is helpful to have dads and grandparents or your support person of choice accompany you at the consultation.
Once the baby arrives, it is advisable to have a breastfeeding consultation within the first 1-2 weeks.
The first visit usually lasts about 1 hour and includes:
- A thorough medical history of mother and baby
- A physical assessment of mother and baby
- Observation of a complete breastfeed
- Optimisation of latch and positioning
- Addressing any particular concerns or challenges
On-going support by WhatsApp or follow up visits may be required until challenges are resolved.
